Case Study: Soccer Manager achieves double data-processing speed and half the server costs with Google Cloud Platform

A Google Cloud Platform Case Study

Preview of the Soccer Manager Case Study

Soccer Manager scaling a virtual sports universe for success on Google Cloud Platform

Soccer Manager Ltd, a UK-based studio that has built soccer management simulation games since 2005, serves 16 million registered players with about 150,000 daily users. The business needed to deliver smooth, highly available gameplay while storing over 500,000 saved games and processing hundreds of thousands of real-world fixtures daily, all with fluctuating peak demand and tight cost constraints.

By moving to Google Cloud Platform and using Compute Engine, Bigtable, BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Datastore, Pub/Sub and TensorFlow, Soccer Manager gained autoscaling, flexible billing and powerful analytics. The migration halved server costs, doubled nightly data-processing speed (from two hours to one), improved site and app performance without code changes, and enabled low-cost storage and machine learning insights for future features and cheat detection.
