SmartHR Migrating to Google Cloud to build a modern serverless environment

SmartHR, one of Japan’s leading HR cloud providers, faced mounting challenges as its legacy DBaaS was nearing end of life and its growing platform had become difficult to manage, secure, and scale. To address internal control concerns and simplify operations, SmartHR chose to fully migrate its cloud platform to Google Cloud Platform, using services such as Cloud Run and App Engine.

Google Cloud Platform implemented a modern serverless environment with standardized infrastructure, improved permission management through Google Workspace, and automation via Terraform. The results included streamlined operations, easier security control, and a five-fold performance gain: processing capacity increased from 100 rps to 500 rps, with the migration significantly reducing learning and operational overhead.
