A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
Simperium, a Y Combinator–backed startup, built Simplenote to improve the iPhone Notes experience and to sync text notes between phones and computers while opening the platform to third-party developers. Their core challenge was delivering seamless synchronization and rapid scale without the time, cost, and complexity of buying and managing servers.
They hosted Simplenote and its public API on Google App Engine, enabling fast deployment, automatic scaling and simple administration. As a result, Simplenote now has hundreds of thousands of users, averages over 10 million requests per day with 500+ GB of stored notes, and has attracted more than 750 developers to build on its API.
