Shop Apotheke Europe, one of Europe’s largest online pharmacies, needed to replace an aging monolithic platform that was slowing development and making it hard to scale for peaks like Black Friday. The company wanted to move to a services-based architecture while reducing infrastructure maintenance and keeping sensitive medical data secure, and it chose Google Cloud Platform, including Google Kubernetes Engine, to support that shift.

Google Cloud Platform helped Shop Apotheke Europe launch a scalable, cloud-based front end and migrate services in phases without disrupting customers. The results included rapid scaling during demand spikes, faster releases from hours to minutes, and multiple deployments per day. Google Cloud Functions also cut CDN costs by more than 90%, while developers gained more time to focus on new features instead of infrastructure work.
