Shazam saving through scaling with Google Cloud Platform

Shazam, a music and media discovery app with over 1 billion downloads, faced the challenge of handling massive, unpredictable traffic spikes during major events like the Super Bowl without the high cost of over-provisioning its own bare-metal server infrastructure. It chose Google Cloud Platform and specifically Google Compute Engine to gain a more flexible and economical scaling solution.

By implementing Google Cloud Platform's Compute Engine, Shazam enabled rapid auto-scaling to meet demand peaks, reducing the need to pre-provision for 100% of capacity. The solution drastically reduced outage times from hours to minutes when node failures occurred and created significant cost savings through pay-as-you-go pricing, ensuring the company only pays for the compute resources it uses.
