A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
Shamir Optical is an Israel‑based SaaS provider that designs and automates manufacturing of prescription lenses for more than 200 labs worldwide. The company’s workloads are compute‑intensive and require constant 24/7 availability and low latency, and its migration was complicated by a SQL Server Always On cluster and the need for rapid, global responsiveness.
Shamir migrated to Google Cloud Compute Engine and Google’s global network, enabling VM deployment in seconds, dynamic scaling, and major latency improvements for labs worldwide. The team implemented a working SQL Server Always On cluster on GCP with zero downtime, cut costs (including ~25% savings on key resources through Committed Use Discounts), and is now using BigQuery and Cloud ML to optimize resource allocation, production, and customer insights.
