A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
scitis.io, born from a collaboration between SOTEC and longtime industrial manufacturer Achenbach, is a pan‑industrial platform that addresses the problem of decentralised, proprietary manufacturing data. Heavy‑industry production relies on legacy machines and PLCs spread across companies and locations, making it costly or impossible to collect live and historical data, compare performance across sites, and optimise processes without replacing expensive hardware.
scitis.io uses SOTEC’s CloudPlug to stream PLC data into Google Cloud Platform, with Google BigQuery for terabyte‑scale, real‑time analytics, Google App Engine for autoscaling deployment, and Tableau on Compute Engine for visualization. The solution was delivered rapidly, supports trial and global rollouts without PLC replacement, gives Achenbach and other customers live and historical insights across hundreds of mills, lowers upfront costs, improves production and maintenance decisions, and enables future IoT and ML enhancements with strong cloud security.
