A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
Route4Me, founded in 2009, provides multi-stop route-planning optimization software used by logistics, last-mile delivery, field sales and service teams. As its customer base grew, Route4Me’s rented, dedicated-server infrastructure couldn’t deliver the global scalability, low latency, high availability, or on-demand surge capacity required for complex, near-real-time routing calculations.
Route4Me migrated fully to Google Cloud, containerizing its platform and running 150+ microservices on Google Kubernetes Engine, and using Google Maps and BigQuery for geocoding and analytics. The move cut infrastructure costs dramatically (including large savings from preemptible VMs), improved latency 8x–12x so complex routes solve in single-digit seconds, increased reliability and customer satisfaction, and freed the team to focus on product innovation rather than infrastructure.
