Red Bull X-Alps needed a way to let millions of fans follow its grueling alpine adventure race in real time, with accurate location tracking, live statistics, and video coverage on a website. To power this experience, the team worked with Google Cloud Platform and Google Maps, with support from Google Cloud Premier Partner g-Xperts.
Google Cloud Platform helped Red Bull X-Alps build a scalable, immersive site using the Maps JavaScript API, Elevation API, and cloud analytics for race statistics. The result was 4.2 million website sessions during the 2017 race phase, up 55% from 2015, while session duration rose 109% to 8 minutes 43 seconds and the site handled peak traffic smoothly across mobile, desktop, and laptop devices.
