A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
Redboat is a lean Australian animation studio led by founder Adrian King that produces strategic 2D and 3D work for businesses and government. As client expectations and 3D resolution demands rose, the studio’s on‑premise render servers became a costly bottleneck—previewing frames could take 30 minutes, full renders often ran overnight or over weekends, and scaling for big jobs was difficult for a distributed team of freelancers.
By moving rendering to Google ZYNC Render, Redboat gained access to thousands of on‑demand cores and scalable cloud rendering, eliminating fixed maintenance costs and dramatically speeding delivery. For one AEAF‑finalist project, 222 sequences were rendered in about 79 hours (roughly 100 hours total including overhead) versus an estimated 400+ hours on a local farm; routine renders that used to take a night now run in 30 minutes and weekend jobs return the same day, enabling faster iteration, higher quality output and a more competitive, distributed business model.
