A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
Qlue is an Indonesian Smart City technology company that builds civic-engagement and city-management applications to help officials monitor flooding, crime, traffic, energy use, and citizen reports in cities like Jakarta. Facing rapid user growth and the need to scale web, mobile, and database services without a large up-front hardware investment or a dedicated ops team, Qlue needed a cloud platform that would let it focus on product development and fast incident response.
Qlue standardized on Google Cloud Platform—using App Engine, Compute Engine, Cloud SQL and moving toward Kubernetes Engine—which enabled a lean tech team, sub‑1,000 ms API latency, and rapid scaling. The apps reached 500,000 downloads and 90,000 active users with ~4,000 reports/day; city officials now respond in minutes to hours; Jakarta reduced flooded areas from 2,000 to 88, sanitation problems fell 18%, operating costs dropped 35%, and citizen satisfaction rose 27%, while Qlue expanded into multiple cities.
