A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
Opportunity Fund is a California‑based nonprofit that provides microloans and microsavings to low‑income entrepreneurs and families. To expand its services nationwide it needed to move off an aging on‑premises data center that lacked the storage and scalability to support growth, so it evaluated cloud providers and selected Google Cloud Platform (GCP) alongside Barracuda NextGen Firewall for security.
Using GCP, CloudEndure and Barracuda, Opportunity Fund completed a fast lift‑and‑shift migration and now runs 20+ Google Compute Engine VMs with 40–50 TB of encrypted storage protected by Barracuda’s firewall and site‑to‑site VPNs. The move cut infrastructure costs by roughly 30–40% (with an additional 10% from VM rightsizing), eliminated downtime, improved performance and gives the organization the ability to scale capacity 10–20x to expand across the U.S.
