A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
Omnigen, a Netherlands-based personalized genomics and bioinformatics company, set out to make DNA analysis affordable and accessible. With a nine-person team, it faced the high compute and storage demands of genome analysis and needed a scalable, reliable solution that would let it grow without hiring dedicated system-administration staff.
By adopting Google Cloud Platform (Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, Cloud Dataflow), Omnigen reduced genome analysis time from five days to three hours, now hosts about 50 TB of data, and can scale resources up or down for peak loads. The move eliminated the need for an in-house sysadmin, yields current savings of roughly €10,000/year with projected savings of €40,000/year, and enables faster product development and future real-time integrations.
