Nuna, a healthcare data and analytics company serving Medicaid, Medicare, employers, health plans, and provider systems, needed a more scalable and secure data warehouse to handle large healthcare datasets and faster query bursts for customer dashboards. Its existing self-managed Hadoop-based setup was expensive, slow, and sometimes dropped queries, creating a 2% error rate; Nuna also used Looker for client-facing analytics.

To solve this, Nuna moved to Google BigQuery and kept Looker as its BI visualization layer. With Looker-integrated analytics on Google BigQuery, Nuna completed its proof of concept and migration in four weeks, cut query times by 2x to 10x, reduced errors to zero, and lowered data warehousing costs by 30x while improving security, compliance, and data isolation.
