Noxxon Sat Telecomunicações Real-time vehicle tracking in Brazil

Noxxon Sat Telecomunicações, a São Paulo–based provider of hardware and software for fleet tracking and passenger information, needed to deliver a new end-to-end bus-location and analytics service for the city’s transit operators. Building an on-site data center was impractical because capacity requirements were uncertain, software and capital costs were high, and local connectivity and uptime were unreliable for a mission-critical real-time system.

Noxxon Sat built the service on Google Cloud Platform — using App Engine to process telemetry, Cloud Datastore to store about 13 TB of current and historic data, BigQuery and Maps APIs for analytics and mapping, and autoscaling VMs (6 to 150 instances) to match demand. The result is real-time tracking for 6,000 buses with better-than-99.99% availability, at least a 20% reduction in IT costs versus traditional hosting, and the ability to scale rapidly without upfront investment.
