News UK needed a faster, more scalable way to unify customer data and transactions so its business teams could better understand readers and respond to their needs. Working with Looker-related Google Cloud data infrastructure and moving from Redshift to BigQuery, the company sought a growth-ready platform that would improve access across teams and reduce maintenance.

The solution, implemented with Looker and Google Cloud technologies, migrated 20 TB of data to BigQuery and added tools such as Cloud Composer, Cloud Storage, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Compute Engine, and App Engine to support batch, real-time, and portal workflows. As a result, News UK cut node-scaling time from months to about an hour, reduced new dataset ingestion from three months to three weeks, improved pipeline performance by 40x, enabled access in an hour instead of a week, and can now handle three times as many data demands with the same team.
