Nationwide Insurance, a Fortune 100 insurance and financial services company, needed to accelerate its digital transformation and modernize IT shared services while shifting to an API-first strategy. Using Google Cloud Platform’s Apigee API Management Platform, Nationwide aimed to make it easier for internal teams, architects, and business partners to innovate and build connections across the business.

Google Cloud Platform implemented Apigee and its developer portal to help Nationwide federate API development, move to a product-based model, and measure API value more effectively. The results included empowering more than 1,000 internal developers, reducing B2B partner onboarding from months to days, and exposing about 120 APIs internally and externally; the company also reported faster microservice development, increased quote generation for pet insurance, and new partner connections that created additional business opportunities.
