A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
KARUNA, a Berlin-based nonprofit that supports children and young people living on the street or at risk of addiction, needed a cost-effective way to connect vulnerable youth with food, shelter, medical care and counseling. A 24-hour hotline was prohibitively expensive, but because most young people carry smartphones, KARUNA chose to build an online interactive map to give quick, easy access to local services.
Working with Google Cloud partner Ubilabs, KARUNA launched MOKLI, a mobile website built on Google Maps Platform that lets users pick a service type, see nearby locations via geolocation, and get directions. Social workers can update contact details through a Google Sheet (with an “Update data” button being added), and the familiar, mobile-friendly interface helps at-risk youth readily find and reach critical services while staff can easily maintain and expand the resource.
