Case Study: Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology achieves scalable digital education and data-driven policy making with Google Cloud Platform

MOEC Equipping Indonesian youths for the future of learning with big data

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (MoECRT) in Indonesia needed a scalable, reliable platform to support a digital education “super app” for more than 3 million teachers and 60 million students, while also meeting public cloud compliance requirements. Using Google Cloud Platform, including Compute Engine and BigQuery, MoECRT aimed to modernize education services, handle large-scale testing, and improve data-driven policy making.

Google Cloud Platform helped MoECRT migrate 44 virtual machines to Compute Engine in five weeks and build a system that scales for exam traffic, supporting hundreds of thousands of students and peaking at 80,000 reads per second with Cloud CDN and Cloud Load Balancing. With BigQuery, the ministry now analyzes student, teacher, and funding data to inform policy, target support, and improve transparency, while also reducing infrastructure costs and enabling faster digital innovation.
