Case Study: Voodoo achieves rapid global scaling and zero downtime for Quiz Run with Google Cloud Platform

A Google Cloud Platform Case Study

Preview of the Voodoo Case Study

Mobile game maker Voodoo builds a global game with Google Cloud Platform

Voodoo, a Paris-based mobile game maker behind Quiz Run, needed a budget-friendly, high-performance platform to support rapid growth and international expansion. With game performance critical to compete and plans to launch in multiple countries and languages, the company required infrastructure that maximized developer productivity while scaling seamlessly under heavy traffic.

Voodoo built on Google Cloud Platform—primarily App Engine with Cloud Datastore and Objectify—and used AppStats to optimize storage and response times. The stack handled spikes of ~200 requests/sec with low latency, served about 3 million players across France, Germany and the U.S., delivered roughly 2 TB/month, and achieved zero downtime over three years. Running multiple server versions in parallel sped iteration without forcing app updates, and BigQuery is being used to drive analytics to reduce churn.
