A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
Mixpanel is a product analytics platform that helps teams understand user behavior across web and mobile apps, serving ~20,000 customers and processing roughly 7 trillion data points a year. As data volumes and query complexity grew—queries can scan billions of events—Mixpanel faced frequent system failures, slower capacity provisioning, and the need to keep median query latency under one second to deliver real-time analytics.
Mixpanel migrated its production stack to Google Cloud Platform, running its proprietary analytics database on Google Kubernetes Engine with local SSD caching, Persistent Disk, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, Datastore, and Spanner. The move enabled capacity to be added in minutes, preserved sub-second median query speeds, reclaimed 30–50% of engineering time for innovation, and scaled reliably to support large enterprise customers and petabyte-scale monthly ingestion.
