Case Study: Akselos achieves faster, scalable engineering simulations with Google Cloud Platform

A Google Cloud Platform Case Study

Preview of the Akselos Case Study

MITx’s edX course uses Akselos for complex engineering simulations on Compute Engine

Akselos, a platform for advanced engineering simulation, needed a scalable way to run complex structural analyses that are far too large and time-consuming for typical desktop systems. Using Google Cloud Platform and Google Compute Engine, Akselos also wanted to support MITx’s edX course, where thousands of students could interact with browser-based simulation tools in structural analysis.

Google Cloud Platform provided the cloud infrastructure for Akselos’s simulation back end, along with storage and Replica Pools to scale compute resources. The solution powered WebGL course apps for 7,500 enrolled students, sustained up to 15,000 simulation queries per hour at 99.9% uptime, and ran smoothly throughout the four-month course, earning very positive student feedback.
