Migrate to the cloud with zero downtime with dbShards and Google Cloud SQL A new method

CodeFutures, maker of the dbShards distributed database suite, helped Genoo — a SaaS provider of marketing automation — solve a common but risky problem: migrating a live, growing MySQL database to a new cloud without revenue‑hurting downtime or expensive disaster‑recovery sites. Genoo needed to move from an outgrown provider while keeping its always‑on service uninterrupted.

Using dbShards/Migrate with Google Cloud SQL’s MySQL Wire Protocol, CodeFutures performed continuous replication so the application stayed fully operational, with only two brief maintenance windows (about 30 seconds to 2 minutes) at the start and end. The result was a seamless, low‑cost migration and multi‑site disaster recovery capability — Genoo’s customers did not notice the change, and the company gained flexibility to move or replicate data across clouds and regions.
