Mercadona, one of Spain’s leading supermarket chains, needed to modernize its operations and support rapid digital growth across thousands of stores, logistics devices, and employee processes. As part of its transformation, Mercadona adopted Google Cloud Platform to build cloud-based applications and move toward a more flexible, scalable infrastructure, starting with its cloud-native employee portal, Activo2.

Google Cloud Platform implemented Kubernetes-based cloud infrastructure and automation that let Mercadona deploy application infrastructure in just 15 minutes and handle demand spikes automatically. The results included up to 20,000 requests per minute for Activo2, up to 70% resource optimization during low-demand periods, improved response times, and the growth of Mercadona’s cloud environment to around 60 applications and 15 GKE clusters.
