menu, the third-largest company in Japan’s takeout and food delivery industry, launched in 2019 and needed to improve the speed, usability, and efficiency of its delivery operations as it expanded. The company wanted a better way to coordinate route planning, delivery staff navigation, address entry, and multi-location “Combo Orders” in its app, while keeping system performance stable during peak demand.

Google Cloud Platform, using Google Maps Platform Mobility services, helped menu integrate route-based distance calculations, in-app navigation, geocoding, and location and mapping features into one system. The result was better operational efficiency and lower server load, with average pickup distance for delivery staff cut in half, Combo Orders doubling within two months, and delivery location updates moving toward near-real-time without overloading servers.
