MarineTraffic Tracking worldwide vessel traffic in real time with Google Maps Platform

MarineTraffic, a leading global provider of ship tracking and maritime intelligence, needed a way to monitor vessel movements and deliver actionable shipping insights in real time. To support this, MarineTraffic used Google Cloud Platform’s Google Maps Platform alongside data from its own receiving stations, satellite receivers, and other sources to power accurate global tracking and rich maritime intelligence.

Google Cloud Platform helped MarineTraffic implement APIs such as the Geocoding API, Maps JavaScript API, and Maps Static API to build familiar interactive maps, route and replay views, and deeper vessel-tracking insights. The result was a more transparent, real-time user experience that powered 180 million interactive and 160 million static map views per month and helped double site traffic to 6.2 million monthly users.
