A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
Kurio is an Indonesian news-aggregation app founded in 2014 that curates and delivers personalized content to mobile users, growing rapidly from a two-person startup to a 48-member team. As the app scaled and attracted venture funding, the company struggled with limited in-house infrastructure expertise, rising cloud costs and the need for fine-grained architectural control to avoid wasted resources.
Kurio migrated to Google Cloud Platform, using BigQuery to store activity and log data that feeds its machine-learning recommendation engine and analytics, and running production apps in Docker on Google Kubernetes Engine for faster deployments. The move cut monthly infrastructure costs by about 8%, enabled millisecond queries over terabytes of data without a DBA, accelerated deployments to seconds, and supported high customer retention—while G Suite and dedicated Google support helped streamline collaboration and architecture decisions.
