A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
Krikey is a San Francisco–based startup founded by two sisters that builds a 3D mobile AR gaming app for creating and sharing videos that interact with the real world. Facing the heavy technical demands of delivering seamless AR experiences—especially in low-bandwidth regions—Krikey needed reliable, globally distributed infrastructure that could handle millions of database writes, scale for spikes in usage, and support analytics for rapid iteration.
Krikey built its stack on Google Cloud Platform, using Firebase, Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Data Studio and Cloud SQL, and leveraged Google Cloud for Startups credits and mentorship. The result: automated scaling and uninterrupted service, granular real-time analytics, faster development, and successful partner projects like Goosebumps 2 AR. Krikey gained thousands of players in weeks while saving hundreds of hours on infrastructure setup and keeping first-year backend costs to about $5,000 (with an initial $1 start).
