kloeckner.i Digitalizing the steel and metals industry with Google Cloud

kloeckner.i, the Berlin-based innovation hub of Klöckner & Co SE, needed to modernize a traditionally manual steel and metals distribution chain and move toward a more agile, automated, customer-centric model. Its on-premises infrastructure was too costly and cumbersome to support the company’s growing digital ambitions, so it turned to Google Cloud Platform, including Google Kubernetes Engine, to build a more scalable foundation.

Using Google Cloud Platform, kloeckner.i migrated workloads to Compute Engine and then redesigned its platform around Google Kubernetes Engine for managed containers, automation, and collaboration. The result was a major boost in agility and efficiency: deployment frequency increased from two to three times per week to as many as eight times per day, infrastructure costs fell compared with on-premises servers, and customers benefited from more automated processes and better service.
