A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
KIPP is a national network of 200 nonprofit charter schools serving about 80,000 predominantly low-income students; KIPP Chicago (six K–8 schools) needed to use data more effectively but was spending excessive time and resources integrating information from multiple systems into its data warehouse, limiting analysts’ ability to drive instructional improvements.
By adopting Fivetran connectors and Google Cloud Platform’s serverless BigQuery, KIPP cut data‑warehouse costs from about $500/month to under $40 and reduced import times from a day or more to roughly 30 minutes (often minutes), freeing analysts to focus on analytics. Those efficiencies helped drive better student outcomes: 92% of KIPP eighth‑grade alumni graduate high school (about 20 percentage points higher than Chicago Public Schools), 81% go to college, and 31% graduate college.
