Keio University Building Canvas LMS on Google Cloud in just three months to provide a cutting-edge e-learning environment

Keio University, Japan’s oldest private comprehensive university, needed to urgently replace its on-premises LMS during COVID-19 as online classes surged and the old system could no longer support modern features or growing access demands. The university turned to Google Cloud Platform and Bow Netsystems to move to Canvas LMS, with a cloud foundation that could scale reliably for tens of thousands of students and faculty.

Google Cloud Platform helped Bow Netsystems build and launch the Canvas LMS environment in just three months with no downtime. The solution used services like Google Compute Engine, Cloud Load Balancing, Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL, Memorystore, Filestore, and Google Kubernetes Engine, resulting in automatic scaling, low maintenance, stable peak-period performance, and seamless integration with other systems. Nearly 40,000 users benefited from the new environment, and the platform was already being adopted widely across the university.
