A Google Cloud Platform Case Study

Karma Eliminating food waste with Google Cloud

Karma, a Stockholm-based company focused on helping customers make ethical, sustainable choices, faced growing pains as it expanded beyond Sweden. Its microservices-based system was still running on bare metal infrastructure, making updates manual, operations cumbersome, and maintenance expensive. As Karma prepared to scale into the UK and France, it needed a cloud platform that could support faster growth and simplify its back end, so it chose Google Cloud Platform.

Google Cloud Platform helped Karma migrate in stages to a more modern cloud setup using Kubernetes, Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, and BigQuery. This replaced much of the manual work with automation, improved scalability and performance, and made data easier to access across the business. As a result, Karma significantly simplified operations, reduced infrastructure complexity, and moved from three full-time engineers managing the stack to a more efficient, scalable model.
