Jelly Button Saving $240,000 a year on in-game analytics

Jelly Button, an Israeli mobile and web game developer best known for Pirate Kings, was facing rapidly rising costs and reliability problems with a third‑party analytics service as its games scaled to millions of daily users. The studio needed a low‑latency, no‑data‑loss analytics backend that delivered near‑real‑time insights for marketing, retention and game improvements.

Working with DoIT International and using Google Cloud’s mobile gaming analytics reference architecture, Jelly Button implemented a streaming pipeline (Pub/Sub → Dataflow → BigQuery) with autoscaling on GKE, delivering analytics-ready data in under an hour. Deployed in under five weeks, the solution eliminated pipeline data loss during outages and cut analytics costs by more than two‑thirds—saving roughly US$240,000 annually while keeping typical monthly GCP spend under $4,000.
