A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
icitizen, an online polling and civic-engagement platform, narrowed its mission to provide real-time polls for citizens, officials, and organizations but was held back by an unwieldy legacy infrastructure spread across Azure, AWS, and Rackspace. The multi-vendor setup couldn’t efficiently run the microservices the site needed or scale reliably for big traffic spikes, so icitizen needed a simpler, more stable, and scalable platform.
The company moved to Google Cloud Platform using Google Kubernetes Engine and engaged ReactiveOps to manage the environment, enabling autoscaling for traffic surges and freeing engineers for product work. As a result icitizen achieved 99.99% uptime (a ~15% stability gain), cut cloud spending by 60%, and saved more than $500K annually in personnel costs while reliably handling major spikes in usage.
