How to bring dinosaurs to life with Google Cloud

Milk VFX is an award‑winning independent visual effects studio that needed to deliver an ultra‑high‑resolution, life‑size dinosaur experience for the Dinosaurs in the Wild attraction under a tight three‑month deadline and strict budget. With limited physical space and growing 4K–7K quality requirements, the studio had to find a way to compete with larger firms without buying or provisioning massive on‑premises render farms.

Milk moved its rendering to Google Cloud Platform, using Google Compute Engine and low‑cost preemptible VMs to spin up tens of thousands of cores in minutes and checkpoint jobs to handle interruptions. The cloud solution let them render 77 million frames (72 minutes of 4K footage) in under three months, dramatically cutting setup time and costs and enabling Milk to take on larger, higher‑quality projects without expanding physical infrastructure.
