HKTaxi Using Google to deliver an intelligent, reliable taxi booking service

HKTaxi, founded in 2013, is a Hong Kong taxi-hailing app used by residents to book rides and connect with more than 60,000 registered drivers. As demand grew, the company faced peak-traffic slowdowns and the burden of manually scaling infrastructure, which pulled staff away from app development. HKTaxi turned to Google Cloud Platform, using Google Maps Platform services such as Maps SDKs and Places API to improve routing, location search, and user experience.

With Google Cloud Platform, HKTaxi implemented Google Kubernetes Engine for automated scaling, Cloud Memorystore for Redis for fast app caching, and planned Cloud SQL for easier database management. The solution improved stability, reduced administration, and helped support traffic spikes from low to peak times by up to 200-fold while lowering costs and delivering sub-second latency. Google Cloud Platform helped HKTaxi strengthen its position as a market leader.
