Folha celebrates its 100th anniversary by indexing 2.5 million historic photos in the cloud

Grupo Folha faced a major challenge managing a 100-year-old image archive of 2.5 million photos and 26,000 cartoons, where files were hard to search, not indexed, and stored on an on-premises server that slowed access for the editorial team. With help from Looker and Google News Initiative partner Assetway, the company needed a better way to digitize, organize, and secure its growing archive.

Looker supported a solution built around Google Cloud technologies and automated indexing to make the archive searchable by keyword and safer in the cloud. The result was much faster image retrieval, improved file security, and easier access for journalists, helping Grupo Folha avoid missed stories and use its archive more effectively.
