FMU Integrating Moodle and Google Cloud to provide users with stability and security

FMU, a large university center in Brazil with about 75,000 students, needed to modernize its online education platform and improve scalability, speed, and cost predictability as demand surged. Its existing cloud setup could not deliver the performance or support required, especially during peak test periods when concurrent users climbed dramatically. FMU turned to Google Cloud Platform, working with partner Calriz and using Google Cloud services to redesign its cloud-based architecture.

Google Cloud Platform implemented a more modern, cloud-native environment for FMU, including integration with Moodle and services such as Google Kubernetes Engine, Cloud Load Balancing, Filestore, and Memorystore. The new setup improved access speed, reliability, and 24/7 availability, while also reducing costs by around 55%. FMU can now support up to 75,000 students using Moodle simultaneously, with better monitoring, stronger backup and disaster recovery, and greater operational efficiency.
