A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
Expliseat is a French startup that builds ultra-light passenger seats (about 4 kg) for single-aisle aircraft, cutting fuel use and saving airlines roughly $450,000 per plane per year. As the company scaled—growing engineering teams and relying on intensive finite-element simulations adapted from automotive software—it reached a decision point over whether to invest in costly in-house servers or move to the cloud to handle heavy computational workloads.
After trialing platforms, Expliseat moved its simulations to Google Cloud Platform’s Compute Engine, updating licensing and software management to run on VMs. The migration proved faster and cheaper than buying servers: engineers can now run 40+ calculations per week (up from about 10), improving speed, performance and operational costs while freeing engineers to focus on results and product development.
