A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
DPD, the second-largest international parcel delivery network in Europe, had built its own mapping tool to show drop-off locations but was dissatisfied with its cost and usability. The company wanted to improve the parcel-delivery experience by giving recipients more delivery options and greater transparency and flexibility in tracking and managing deliveries.
By adopting Google Maps Platform to power its pickup-location finder and introduce live tracking, DPD lowered costs, improved usability, and added new features quickly. Results include 27,450 pickup points registered on the map, about 35,000 users and ~300,000 site views per day, 3.6 million parcels delivered daily, and 50,000 delivery experts using the Maps-based app. Live tracking — unique in the German market — lets senders and recipients follow a parcel on a map, see an ETA within 30 minutes, and redirect deliveries as needed.
