A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
Dow Jones DNA, part of Dow Jones, faced the challenge of giving enterprise customers scalable, flexible access to a massive premium news archive—1.3 billion documents spanning decades—so they could detect hidden relationships and the network effects of key events. To accelerate digital transformation and make decades of unstructured news actionable, Dow Jones partnered with Quantiphi and Google to explore cloud and machine‑learning approaches.
Together they built a Knowledge Graph prototype on Google Cloud in 10 weeks, using TensorFlow, BigQuery, Cloud Bigtable, a graph database and visualization tools to perform text mining, ML and data integration. The solution synthesized the equivalent of 304 years of unstructured news, defined complex network effects (demonstrated by analyses such as 2017 hurricanes’ impact on insurance), and delivered fast, scalable insights that help clients uncover risks, opportunities and new revenue streams.
