A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
Dolphin Technologies, an Austria‑based insurance telematics provider, helps insurers tailor premiums and improve driver safety by collecting real‑time data from third‑party hardware and smartphones. Faced with ingesting and analysing streams from more than 150,000 moving objects with large rush‑hour peaks, the company needed a scalable, highly available and secure platform that could support per‑customer billing and event‑based interactions—requirements an on‑premises setup could not meet.
Working with Google Cloud Partner CLOUDPILOTS, Dolphin migrated to Google Cloud Platform and re‑architected its stack into dockerized microservices on Google Kubernetes Engine, with data flowing through Cloud Dataflow into BigQuery and models in Cloud Machine Learning Engine (and exploratory use of Cloud Speech‑to‑Text). The move delivered rapid, reliable scaling, encrypted data-at-rest and ISO/IEC 27001‑level security, granular client billing, real‑time and predictive analytics, and the operational uptime needed to improve driver safety—enabling plans to double its user base within 12 months.
