Etsy, the global marketplace for unique and creative goods, needed a cloud platform that could scale during peak demand, improve sustainability, and support better collaboration while freeing its team from managing on-premises infrastructure. As part of its migration, Etsy also used Looker to make cost data more visible and actionable across the company.

Looker helped Etsy turn cloud billing and budget data into dashboards and alerts that improved accountability, surfaced cost spikes, and even helped engineers identify underlying technical issues. Combined with its move to Google Cloud, Etsy migrated 5.5 petabytes of data, cut compute energy use by more than 50 percent, reduced compute costs by 42 percent, and shifted 15 percent of engineering headcount from infrastructure work to customer experience.
