A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
Warburtons, the U.K.’s largest baked‑goods manufacturer (4,500 employees, ~$750M revenue), faced a productivity bottleneck: its field sales team spent about one day per week transcribing handwritten notes into internal systems to serve a retail base that had grown to ~20,000 stores. Many reps had never used tablets or apps, so Warburtons needed a simple, scalable mobile solution and a careful rollout to modernize data capture without disrupting the sales force.
DMI developed a custom Android tablet app on Google Cloud Platform (App Engine, Cloud Storage, Cloud Datastore, Cloud SQL) and used BigQuery for sales analytics, combined with a focused pilot, training program and in‑field evangelists. The app cut data entry time by ~75% (from one day/week to about one day/month), giving reps roughly one full day back each week, while BigQuery-driven analysis uncovered cross‑sell and upsell opportunities that led to a significant increase in sales.
