Dedact Building a personalized learning platform

Dedact, a Netherlands-based edtech startup, builds Learnbeat, a personalized learning platform that automates marking and adapts content to students. As the company doubled its user base each year to tens of thousands of students, a series of DDoS attacks in 2016 caused outages and exposed limits in its existing provider, forcing an urgent search for a more resilient infrastructure.

Dedact migrated to Google Cloud Platform within months, rearchitecting on Google Kubernetes Engine and using Cloud Load Balancing, Cloud SQL, BigQuery, App Engine and Compute Engine with autoscaling and CI/CD. The move eliminated DDoS-related outages, delivered smooth performance for ~50,000 students (handling 500,000 data points daily), maintained 100% year‑over‑year growth, and reduced costs through efficient autoscaling.
