Chironix Turning to Google Cloud to help Aboriginal Australians connect with their ancestors

Chironix, a Western Australia–based software development company focused on robotic autonomy, AI, and genomics, was challenged by the need to process large, sensitive genetic datasets for the Aboriginal Heritage Project. Working with Looker’s Google Cloud-based analytics environment, Chironix aimed to help Aboriginal Australians learn more about their ancestors and cultural heritage while managing complex DNA data securely and at scale.

Looker and Google Cloud helped Chironix implement scalable genomics pipelines using tools like the GATK pipeline, Cloud Life Sciences API, Compute Engine, and machine learning. The solution reduced analysis time from several months to weeks, supported datasets of 1.3 PB and beyond, and provided a highly secure Australian-based environment for sensitive genetic information, enabling detailed genetic summaries and a path for Aboriginal Australians to reconnect with their ancestral country and heritage.
