A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
CareerBuilder, founded in 1995, is a global human-capital solutions provider that evolved from a job board into an AI-driven platform for matching talent and employers. The company faced a resource-intensive challenge: maintaining and tuning an in-house search stack across careerbuilder.com and 4,000 talent networks consumed engineering capacity and limited its ability to improve relevancy, engagement, and conversions.
CareerBuilder migrated search to Google Cloud’s Cloud Talent Solution and Cloud ML to leverage Google’s semantic search and machine learning. The change powered 100% of site and alert searches and delivered measurable gains: a 15% lift in users viewing jobs from automated alerts, a 41% increase in actions from saved-search alerts, a 40% rise in clickthroughs across talent networks, an 18% increase in qualified applicants for top job categories (and overall applications up 5–7%), while freeing engineers to focus on new mobile features like Commute Search.
