BPAY Uncovering new business opportunities with APIs

BPAY Group, the leading electronic bill payment service in Australia, wanted to reduce friction in its batch-based payment processes and better serve both existing customers and emerging digital banks. To do that, BPAY turned to Google Cloud Platform’s Apigee API Management Platform to move toward a more flexible, customer-friendly API strategy.

With Google Cloud Platform and Apigee, BPAY launched a developer portal and released foundational APIs that let businesses validate payment data before submitting batches, reducing errors and enabling automated file generation. The portal quickly gained traction, registering 104 developers in sandbox and 10 in production in its first month, while new API-based use cases with BNPL providers and NoahPay opened up fresh business opportunities.
