Case Study: Barilla achieves faster, more transparent factory collaboration with Google Cloud Platform

Barilla, the Italian food producer, needed a better way to manage communication on a long, multi-shift production line in its Cremona factory. Paper notebooks and informal messaging caused conflicting records, slow handovers, and poor visibility, so Barilla worked with Google Cloud Platform partner Injenia to build a more reliable digital collaboration tool using Google App Engine and related Google Cloud services.

Google Cloud Platform helped launch CollaborAction, a social-style app that gave workers a single, near real-time view of events and let them share text, photos, and video from tablets, smartphones, and laptops. The solution replaced paper logs, sped up adoption across six factories and more than 1,000 users, and is being rolled out further; Barilla has already logged over 50,000 posts and says the app has improved efficiency, reduced confusion, and helped cut food waste when issues arise.
