A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
Autodesk, a leader in 3D design software, needed to move its desktop products to the cloud and build an ecosystem that shares engineering and design data with customers and partners. The challenge was exposing proprietary design data to new, tangential users and partners to create data-driven revenue streams—without requiring expensive desktop licenses—and to do so while managing unpredictable API demand.
Autodesk chose Google Cloud’s Apigee API platform to secure, govern, and scale access to internal and external APIs and to power the Autodesk Forge developer platform; Apigee’s flexibility let Autodesk integrate its own monetization and identity systems. The fully managed, interoperable solution extended access for collaboration and new customers, delivered reliability and scalability, and handled more than 33 billion API calls in 2017—over three times the volume of 2016.
